Marvel is finally giving the Inhumans the standalone, live-action treatment. After introducing the race on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to set up a future movie, Inhumans has since been transformed into a television series, but with a twist. The first two episodes of the series will debut in IMAX theaters for two weeks, with the company helping to fund the first series of its kind. With only eight episodes at its disposal, many have wondered how well television would be able to translate the otherwise wild concepts that come with the property.
Based on what has been shown already, it looks as though Marvel, ABC, and IMAX are doing their best to meet the high expectations. The series will reportedly not shy away from their life on the moon and production has landed in Hawaii to take advantage of the extravagant landscapes, but also the city. This has allowed for a continued release of set photos, which now have produced the first look at Serinda Swan as Medusa.
Reel News Hawaii has been tracking production and were able to take pictures of the set from this past weekend. While only the back of her can be seen, the first look at Medusa has been revealed and it retains her purple outfit and long, flowing red hair – although not quite as long as it may ultimately be. Iwan Rheon can also be spotted in the first photo, but the angle and distance does not allow for any of his features to stand out. The same can be said for Sonya Balmores as Auran, who is leading Medusa and Black Bolt (Anson Mount) in the second image, but only the back of her is shown.

As was the case with the first batch of photos of Crystal (Isabelle Cornish), there is a chance that better looks at these characters could surface in the next few days, or at the very least later on during production. With Medusa’s look being the biggest and clearest takeaway from these photos, fans of the character should be pleased that her comic design appears to have been well adapted to the series. While her hair is much shorter than it traditionally is in the comics given its larger than life portrayal, CGI work will likely be done to put Medusa’s powers on display.
Fans will have to wait and see just how exactly the full costume for Medusa looks, but the scene taking place is rather interesting. Auran appears to be leading Medusa and Black Bolt through a gathered crowd and close to an interesting centerpiece. With Maximus nearby, nothing will likely go according to the Royal Family’s plan. This could be an attack by Maximus, or Auran’s presence could simply be precautionary. It is also not clear if this is still on Earth or not, with so far the rest of the set photos all taking place here.
Inhumans comes to IMAX theaters for two weeks starting Friday, September 1, prior to its television debut on Tuesday, September 26 on ABC.
